On Business Continuity

Business Continuity, why is it so important? If the business can’t run, it can’t make money. Even more critical is the customer trust that will be lost by the business not functioning. There are quotes on that it takes ten times more effort to keep a customer than it does to gain a new one. If your company can’t provide the needed goods/services, etc, your former customers will be moving onto another vendor so THEY can keep their customers happy! Seems simple? (not really)

Over the next few weeks, I will be posting a number of videos and corresponding posts on a variety of topics that tie into Business Continuity. We will cover such topics as:

  1. Communication
  2. Alternative Connections
  3. Keeping your data safe
  4. Runbooks and other permanent documents
  5. Azure Zones and Regions
  6. Lots of lots more

Some of this is technical, and some of it is not. First of all, having a good infrastructure partner like Microsoft and their Azure technology will provide a good location for Disaster Recovery and Highly Available options. Prudent usage of licensing can make this a very cost effective solution. Working with a Managed Services team can make sure that the lights are kept on so your business can move forward and provide a storefront to your customers, no matter the time of day. Finally, maybe it’s time to have an outside expert come in and tie all of these pieces together. It’s not all about the technology; it’s about the communication, the lists of contacts, protecting the data, etc, etc, etc. Having someone who’s been in the trenches for a long time can be a real time and money saver.
